Kamba African Rainforest Experiences - Kamba Journeys
A visit to the Congo Basin is a transformational journey into one of the wildest, most isolated, most remote places on the planet. A rainforest second in size only to the Amazon, the Congo is home to more than 400 species of mammals — including the critically endangered Western Lowland Gorilla — 1,000 bird species, 10,000 plant species… and scarcely any outside visitors. Kamba African Rainforest Experiences (formerly Congo Conservation Co.) invites you to become one of those privileged few. We offer the only opportunity to immerse yourself in one of Africa’s most spellbinding ecosystems. Encounter gorillas, forest elephants, African gray parrots, and other rarely sighted wildlife. Fill your lungs with the immaculate air of a forest barely touched by humanity. And experience the paradigm shift that comes from visiting one of the remotest, most remarkable places on Earth. We create wilderness experiences in the Congo Basin that introduce this remote and barely-visited region to the wider world. We handle the entire trip, including domestic transportation (by private plane, boat, kayak, and road), all activities, expert guiding, gorilla tracking permits, meals and drinks, and any pre- or post-trip stays in Brazzaville. Kamba African Rainforest Experiences
The experience of adventure. Let us walk and kayak you through the Congo Basin for a journey you will cherish forever. This is the Odzala Discovery.
Congo Conservation Company
Explore the Congo Basin with us - the pristine rainforest, rivers and eco-system untouched, conserved and protected by Congo Conservation Company. With 3 camps through the Odzala-Kokoua National Park and Discovery journeys connecting them, experiencing this remote part of Africa is finally possible. Track the western-lowland gorilla, walk through dense forests, kayak down Africa's rivers, and step into the open baïs ... This is a place that transcends time, a place of adventure, a place - to be free.
Ngaga Camp
Ngaga is truly gorilla central. A focal point for world-class research as well as unforgettable primate encounters, Ngaga Camp’s unique design mimics tree-houses. From the six elevated guest rooms, wraparound walkways allow you to peer directly into the forest canopy. Like Lango, the Camp is constructed from natural materials using traditional techniques.
Activities
What you can do
Forest Walk (Day & Night)
Enjoy a guided forest walk in the last jungles of Tarzan. Our intimate guided walks reveal the splendor of the Congolese rainforest, fostering a deeper understanding of this precious ecosystem and the flora and fauna it shelters. Hear the sounds of the forest, smell the dewy humidity, and feel connected to something greater than yourself. Step into the mysteries of the forest after dark. On foot, listen for insects and watch the flickering light of fireflies. In a vehicle, look for the reflection of shining eyes in the treetops. Notice how alive the forest is, no matter the time of day.
Gorilla Trekking
While on a Kamba Journey, tick gorilla trekking off your bucket list. Ngaga Lodge is home to a world-renowned primate research team who have spent the last few decades in the forest navigating its trails and understanding its rhythms. Guests come here to share in their knowledge and experience this amazing rainforest. Track western lowland gorillas respectfully with our research trackers and guides, observe the families of Western Lowland Gorilla that live in the forest surrounding Ngaga Lodge as they climb trees to feast on ripened fruit, swing from branches, and communicate with hoots and howls. Each encounter with these primates so like ourselves is fascinating and life-changing.
Sundowners on the river deck
A river deck is located on the Ngaga stream for post forest walks and special occasions. After an afternoon walk through the woods surrounding the lodge, spotting butterflies, birds, and hooting monkeys, you come across a group of chairs set in a stream. You kick off your shoes and cool your feet in the shallow water while the guide prepares a batch of gin & tonics.
Sundowners on the star deck
The star deck and fire pit are found on a deck below the main living area for pre-dinner drinks while you watch the sun set over the forest.
Wildlife
Ngaga Lodge is home to the research team who have spent the last few decades in the forest navigating its trails and understanding its rhythms.
