Overview
Rebuilt in June 2024, Little Tubu’s three elevated tented suites are set beneath a canopy of riverine trees on Hunda Island, offering an intimate and contemporary safari retreat.
Raised on wooden platforms and connected by winding walkways, the suites blend classic safari design with refined modern finishes.
Each spacious en-suite tent features floor-to-ceiling openings that maximise natural light and frame expansive views across the surrounding floodplains and woodlands. A private viewing deck provides an ideal vantage point for observing wildlife, while the outdoor shower enhances the sense of immersion in the Delta.
Elevated walkways link the suites to the camp’s intimate main area, including the lounge, dining space, pool and bar, creating seamless flow while maintaining privacy and a strong connection to the surrounding wilderness.

Discover the Jao Reserve – Okavango Delta
Welcome to the Jao Reserve, one of the most iconic private reserves in Botswana’s Okavango Delta. Here, a remarkable mosaic of floodplains, palm islands, winding channels, and rich woodland habitats creates one of the most diverse safari landscapes in Africa. Within the reserve, six distinctive camps, Jao, Kwetsani, Tubu Tree, Little Tubu, Jacana, and Pelo, offer different perspectives of this extraordinary Delta environment. Each camp is positioned in a unique setting, allowing guests to experience the changing character of the Okavango across its varied habitats. The Jao Reserve is renowned for the variety of safari experiences it offers. Venture out on open-vehicle game drives through woodland and grassland, glide quietly through waterlily-filled channels by mokoro, or explore the Delta by boat as seasonal floodwaters transform the landscape. Wildlife encounters are equally diverse, from large herds of lechwe and buffalo moving across the floodplains to the excitement of tracking predators such as lion and leopard. The Journey In – New Safari Vehicles at Jao Reserve
This video highlights the delivery of the new Toyota Land Cruiser safari vehicles travelling from Maun into the Jao Reserve. These vehicles replace our long-serving heritage fleet of Land Rovers and form part of our ongoing commitment to maintaining a modern, reliable fleet in one of Africa’s most remote safari environments. Operating in the Okavango Delta presents unique logistical challenges, and ensuring that our vehicles and equipment remain in top operating condition is essential to delivering a safe and comfortable safari experience. Purpose-built for comfort, safety, and exceptional visibility, these custom game viewer vehicles allow guests to explore the Delta from an elevated perspective. Spacious seating, open sides, and uninterrupted window views ensure that every guest enjoys a prime vantage point for wildlife viewing and photography. The vehicles are used for daily safari activities across the reserve and are designed to carry up to six guests, with each seat offering excellent visibility of the surrounding wilderness. For many guests, the journey from the airstrip to camp, and every drive that follows, is where the safari truly begins.

Little Tubu Camp – Birding
The mix of habitat ensures a variety of birdlife to be seen, from flocks of endangered wattled crane and glimpses of the rare lesser jacana on the eastern side, to Meyer’s parrots and Dickinson’s kestrel in the west.
Little Tubu Camp – Boating
Discover by boat and search for water-loving wildlife further afield. Good game viewing in the channels further away from camp often yield fabulous sightings of hippos and crocodiles, and maybe even the rare sitatunga.* Water levels permitting.
Little Tubu Camp – Fishing
Fishing with a limited supply of basic equipment is on offer seasonally on a catch-and-release basis.* Note that fishing is seasonal as it is prohibited by Botswana law in January and February due to breeding purposes.
Little Tubu Camp – Game Drives
Explore Hunda Island on guided morning and afternoon game drives in open 4x4 safari vehicles. The island’s varied habitats support an abundance of wildlife, with leopard, elephant, antelope and other large game frequently encountered.Led by an experienced guide, each drive is shaped by the prevailing conditions and wildlife movements of the day, offering rewarding opportunities to observe the reserve’s animals and birdlife in their natural environment.Game drives are subject to weather, road conditions and operational considerations. Wildlife sightings cannot be guaranteed.
Little Tubu Camp – Guided Nature Walks

Little Tubu Camp – Mokoro Excursions
Experience the Okavango Delta waterways at eye-level, gliding along in a traditional mokoro (dugout canoe) which has been used by generations for transport in the region where there are many more serene channels than roads. This excursion is perfect for spotting tiny reed frogs or larger pods of hippos in the deeper water.* Water levels permitting.
Little Tubu Camp – Night Drives
Night drives with spotlights allow you to find those nocturnal animals you wouldn’t see during normal daytime drives. Porcupine, aardwolf, serval, large spotted genet and lesser bushbaby are just some of these.
Little Tubu Camp – Star Bed
At night an elevated deck, located near camp, is transformed into a star bed offering a wondrous sleep-out experience under a blanket of stars and from which to enjoy the passing game.
