3-Day Luxury Safari in Kenya’s Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary with Train Transfers

Your adventure begins early in the morning as you make your way to the SGR train station in either Nairobi or Mombasa. You’ll board the Madaraka Express for a scenic and comfortable ride toward Voi, the gateway. The train journey takes you through rolling landscapes, acacia-dotted plains, and rural towns, offering glimpses of everyday life along the railway line. Upon arrival at Voi Station, you’ll be met by a safari guide and transferred by road to the Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary, a private conservancy bordering Tsavo West National Park. As you check in, you'll be welcomed with a refreshing drink and enjoy lunch while soaking in views of the surrounding hills and savannah. In the late afternoon, you’ll head out for your first game drive in the sanctuary. This 28,000-acre conservancy is rich in wildlife, including elephants, lions, buffalo, giraffes, zebras, impalas, and a wide variety of birds. As the sun sets, you'll make your way to the resort/lodge, where you'll spend the night.

Wake up to the sounds of the African wilderness and enjoy a hearty breakfast as you watch the early-morning activity around the waterhole. You'll then set off on a morning game drive, exploring deeper into the sanctuary’s varied habitats, from open grasslands to wooded areas and hilly terrain. After the morning game drive, you’ll return to the resort/lodge for lunch and some relaxation time, with uninterrupted views of wildlife from the lodge decks or your private balcony. In the afternoon, another game drive gives you a chance to explore different areas of the sanctuary or revisit favorite spots from the day before. For those looking for something extra, you can opt for a night game drive (available at an additional cost), which gives you the rare opportunity to see nocturnal animals such as bush babies, civets, and hyenas, as well as predators on the hunt under the cover of darkness. Dinner is once again served at the resort/lodge before turning in for the night.

Your final day begins with a sunrise game drive, one last chance to soak in the wild beauty of Taita Hills and perhaps catch a glimpse of animals you may have missed. The cool morning hours are ideal for photography and wildlife viewing, with the golden light casting a magical glow over the landscape. After the drive, return to the lodge for breakfast and check-out. You’ll then be transferred back to Voi Railway Station in time for your Madaraka Express train departure back to either Nairobi or Mombasa. The return journey offers more stunning views of the countryside and a relaxing end to your safari experience.
