Xigera Safari Lodge
Overview
Xigera is a handcrafted love letter to the Okavango Delta, to its wildlife, its people, and its future.
Born from legacy, shaped by a family’s vision, and brought to life with deep respect for place. Xigera reimagines the safari experience; one where immersion in nature meets thoughtful hospitality and an unwavering commitment to conservation. Every detail, from architecture to service has been considered, created to honour rather than occupy. Nothing here is accidental. Everything is intentional.
Your Safari, Your Story
With no set schedules, no set routines, at Xigera, experience unfolds at your pace. Greet the sunrise with yoga, track leopard across the floodplains, drift silently on a mokoro, guided bush walks, photographic excursions, catch-and-release fishing or spend the night under a blanket of stars in the Baobab Treehouse. Enjoy a self-guided tour of the art collection, linger in stillness, or seek adventure. Here, your safari is entirely shaped by you, your pace, your wonder, your story.
Where the Wild Walks With You
Here wildlife is not a backdrop, it’s part of your everyday. It might be elephants feed undisturbed, outside your suite, tearing leaves and bark from trees with practiced ease. Wild dogs denning near camp. Lions calling across the water. A leopard draped lazily across a tree limb. Cheetah, lechwe, fish eagles, buffalo, they’re not on show; they’re part of the story. This is one of the most biodiverse regions of Botswana, where nature reveals itself slowly, boldly, without needing to perform.
A Living Gallery, Designed to Be Felt
Xigera is not decorated. It is designed to feel. Every space, every surface, every object you touch, has been imagined and handcrafted by some of Africa’s most visionary creatives. From sculptural chairs to hand-forged firepits, to art you play chess with or sit in, the lodge is alive with creative energy. More than 80 artists, designers, and artisans from across Africa have shaped the lodge, their stories woven into its fabric. It is not a gallery. It is a living canvas.
People Who Bring the Delta to Life
The people of Xigera are its heart. Nearly all are Botswanan, raised by the rhythm of the bush, and deeply connected to the land. They are storytellers, conservationists, guides, and caretakers, united by purpose and pride. Their warmth is instinctive. What stays with you is not just what they do, but how deeply they feel it.
Food That Speaks of Heritage, Season, and Soul
At Xigera, food is rooted in story and place. It’s a celebration of land, season, and the people who grow and gather it with care. Many ingredients are grown for us in nearby Maun. While others come from partners who share our values of sustainability and quality. We call it radius cooking with purpose. Every dish tells a story, every meal reflects the heart of this place and the care behind it. Real food. Real stories. Always exceptional.
A Sanctuary for the Soul
Stillness is sacred at Xigera. You feel it in the quiet mornings on the meditation deck, in the spa rituals drawn from local flora. Whether you find yourself in the library at midday or a work out in the TechnoGym at dusk, wellness here isn’t curated. It’s quiet, natural, deeply personal. This is the Delta’s greatest gift, not only to restore, but to reawaken.
Touching the Earth, Lightly
Powered by 92% solar energy, free of single-use plastics, and guided by a zero-waste philosophy, the lodge was designed to walk lightly on this UNESCO World Heritage Site. From thermodynamic geysers to reverse osmosis water, from composting to supply chain choices, every action is a form of conscious care, protecting the Delta for generations to come. Sustainability is not a feature, it is the foundation.
Every Stay a Force for Good
Embracing a low-volume, high-value tourism model, Xigera protects not just place, but possibility, proving that luxury and conservation can work collaboratively together. From guiding academies and chef apprenticeships to supporting Habu Village farming or conservation work with Wild Entrust, Xigera operates with purpose. We also support predator monitoring, endangered bird protection, and low-impact farming. We believe that tourism can and must leave a lasting, positive legacy on people and ecosystems equally.
Not Just a Place, A Feeling
Somewhere between the quiet of the Delta and the care of our people, something shifts. You slow down. You soften. You remember how it feels to be present. The magic of Xigera. Everything we do is shaped by reverence. And everything we are is rooted in one purpose: to share the spirit of the Okavango Delta with those who are ready to truly feel it.

What you can do
Birding
From the Coppery-tailed Coucal to the Western-banded Snake Eagle, Wattled Crane to Lesser Jacana, walking safaris are an ideal opportunity for enthusiastic bird-watchers to admire the over 500 species recorded in the Okavango Delta. Xigera’s exceptional location on the fringes of the Moremi Game Reserve delivers some of the best birding Botswana has to offer - including the much sought-after Pel's Fishing Owl.
Boating Excursions
Explore winding papyrus-fringed channels aboard our double-decker motorboats, where the water’s surface mirrors the sky. These excursions also allow for exploration of the deeper rivers and lagoons that are home to crocodile and large pods of hippo. Please note that boating is seasonal, water levels permitting.
Catch-and-Release Fishing
Catch-and-release fishing offers a serene but exciting encounter with the Delta’s waters. Tigerfish, African Pike, and Bream await, but sustainably, mindfully and unforgettable. Please note that catch-and-release fishing is season-dependent.
Game Drives
Move through the Delta’s living landscapes on dawn, dusk, or guest-desired game drives. Follow dusty paths across floodplains and woodlands, where elephants wade through channels, lion prides rest in golden light, and the elusive leopard moves like shadow through the trees. With Xigera’s expert guides, each drive becomes a deeper encounter, with wildlife, with land, and the stories they hold.
Guided Walking Safaris
Tread with nature on guided bush walks, attuning to every sound, scent, and track under the experienced care of our guides. Walking slowly unwraps the linked pace of the wild, where wisdom is written into every track and leaf.
Helicopter Safari (Surcharge)
Take to the skies for an aerial perspective of the Delta’s immeasurable wonder. Choose door-off flights for unmatched photographic opportunities, or pair with champagne landings on hidden palm islands.
Mokoro Excursions
Drift through the Delta’s waterways on traditional mokoros, guided by the steady hand of your poler, each push moving you silently, deeper into the bountiful landscape. Our polers grew up navigating these waters and are expert at spotting and identifying aquatic birds, fish and wildlife along the channels.
Spa & Wellness
Meticulously designed to frame breathtaking views of the seasonal flood plains and lush riverine forests, Xigera's spa is a sanctuary of calm. Treatments blend Tata Harper’s award-winning organic skincare with the healing power of indigenous botanicals. Signature massages, facials, and body rituals reveal the mystical healings of the Delta, restoring balance to body and spirit. The lodge showcases a modern fitness centre – with state-of-the-art equipment from Technogym – alongside a swimming pool and relaxation deck gazing over the river.
The Baobab Treehouse (Surcharge)
Spend an unforgettable night 10 metres above the floodplains in our exclusive sculptural Baobab Treehouse, offering panoramic views from each of its three levels. Open to the stars, surrounded by the sounds of the Delta, it is Africa’s most extraordinary sleepout experience. Situated one kilometre away from the lodge, with a guide stationed close by, the striking steel structure is built in the evocative shape of a Baobab tree. Inside the tree’s ‘trunk’, a winding staircase climbs nearly four metres above ground, delivering guests to the spacious bathroom on the first level. The bedroom is located on the second level, beautifully appointed with carved timber furniture. Both spaces have canvas walls that can open up to the outside environment, or be zipped closed to allow for privacy and protection from the elements. Ascend to the top and the drama unfolds, with an open-air deck for lounging, reading and watching wildlife pass undisturbed below. A serene, hidden eyrie from which to witness the magic of the Delta at dusk or ¬– if you choose to spend the night in the open-air king-size bed – to marvel at the stars. Please note the Baobab Treehouse is at a surcharge and cannot be pre-booked.
