Travessia Beach Lodge
Overview
Wonderfully isolated Eco-Lodge - so unspoilt it feels like a secret.
Combine deliciously warm water and a glorious endless beach with true Robinson Crusoe style remoteness and you get Travessia Beach Lodge. Nestled between palm forest and the dunes lining the Southern Mozambican coastline, this is simple luxury at its best: quality, comfort and never too “done”. The lodge’s guided afternoon bushwalks introduce travelers to a picture book of rural African living: people busy with traditional food preparations, small scale farming and magnificent baobab trees, hidden in a sea of coconut palms.
The secluded casas have spacious decks, with hammocks and ensuite outdoor showers with panoramic views over the palm grove and ocean. All buildings are set on raised wooden decks with roll-up canvas walls under a thatched roof and in close proximity to the beach. The lodge is entirely solar powered – ensuring a light environmental footprint.
Off the beaten track yet easily accessible from Vilankulos or Inhambane, Travessia offers family practicality, villa privacy and true relaxation. Loved by families, couples and single travelers alike.

What you can do
Beach Activities
Beach Run: Wake up early to find coffee and tea on your deck and set off for a walk or run along the beach before breakfast. Except for one or the other fisherman, you will have the beach entirely to yourself. Boogie Boarding & Kayaking: Kids and adults off all ages have been braving the warm water and shore break with our boogie boards of different sizes. Our Fluid Buddy Kayaks are great to paddle out to see, once you mastered the shore break.
Bush & Village Walk
A favorite activity among our guests, our bush and village walk is a casual stroll through the coastal forest, introducing guests to life and customs in the village. Guests will pass through cassava fields, along giant baobab trees and pay a visit to the village pre-primary school. Depending on what the locals are busy with on that afternoon, food and Sura tastings may form part of this uncontrived experience. ?Depending on your level of fitness and curiosity, the walk may take anything between one or three hours. The walk is for free. Any donations from guests to our “Village Fund” are welcome and will contribute to future projects to the benefit of the community, such as building and maintenance support for the local schools or infrastructure.
Cycling and archery
Explore the endless beach on wheels with our single gear "Mozambikes", specifically developed by a Maputo company for the needs and requirements of Mozambicans. Those single gears are great for casually cycling along the shore line. Go just after low tide, when the sand is nice and solid.
Market Visits
Join the Travessia team on their shopping trip to Morrumbene, Massinga or Maxixe. Those small town markets usually cater for locals more than for tourists and allow for relaxed browsing. Look out for the colourful printed fabric the women of Mozambique tend to wear, or chose among the variety of woven baskets, between traditional food preparation tools and of course, lots of fruit, veggies and spices. For a broader selection of curio items we recommend a trip to the market of Inhambane or Tofo.
Massages on your private deck
Enjoy a 60min or 30min massage on your private deck, all with organic coconut oil!
Ocean Safaris, Scuba Diving, Snorkeling
After your first days in Mozambique you will have adapted to Mozambican time (in bed by 9pm, getting up with the first rays of sunlight) and waking up for an early breakfast will be easy for you by now! Head off early for a scenic day trip to Tofo and embark on an Ocean Safari with one of Tofo's experienced operators for a chance to swim with whale sharks. The coral reefs along the coast of Inhambane are famous for sightings of Manta Rays and Whale Sharks and the area has been earmarked to join the list of Marine World Heritage Sites. The best time for those encounters are between July and December. Humpback whales can also be observed from our pool lounge, sometimes coming as close as 800m to the beach!
