Overview
Basecamp Adventure is an intimate camp of just six tents on a beautiful, forested bend of the Talek River, right next to the Maasai Mara National Reserve.
Shaded by trees, with sweeping views out over the plains, the camp embodies the essence of simplicity under canvas, with an abundance of private open space for intrepid explorers seeking a true atmosphere of adventure.
Designed for minimal impact and in keeping with our sustainability ethos, Basecamp Adventure blends seamlessly into its natural setting. Each tent has warm, earthy furnishings, bio-flush toilets, solar-heated showers and a private terrace overlooking the river and the Reserve. The family tents add two separate wings and a larger deck. The atmosphere is intimate and relaxed, whether you’re unwinding in the lounge or sitting quietly on your terrace watching animals come down to drink from the river.
The Reserve is on your doorstep. Game drives head straight into one of Africa’s richest wildlife areas, and from July to October or November, the Great Wildebeest Migration brings over two million animals through the Mara, running the gauntlet of the river crossings.
Here, you reconnect with nature in its most essential form. The camp is the ideal choice for guests who want to go beyond the game drive, immersing themselves in local Maasai culture, learning about the conservation and community projects we support, and getting involved in making a lasting difference. Working closely with our Maasai friends and neighbours, we offer authentic cultural experiences. You can visit the Enjoolata Centre to learn about Maasai culture and Mara wildlife, or meet the women of Basecamp Maasai Brand and their beadwork. You can plant a tree at our nursery, walk through Talek town and its local market, and join guided bird and forest walks. Children can join the Young Explorers Club.
Our water project supplies clean drinking water to nearly 2,000 local families, and the camp is managed and staffed by members of the local community. Every stay helps build a brighter future for the people who are the guardians of this land, and deepens your love for one of Africa’s most iconic places.

Activities
Bird Walk
Bird walking safari is one of the main activities carried out at Basecamp Masai Mara which is located along the Talek River. Basecamp Masai Mara is surrounded by a wealth of diverse flora and fauna. Over the years we have managed to revive the Talek River ecosystem by planting trees to address the pressing issue of deforestation and ground erosion. The afforestation program has since attracted over 300 bird species that have been recorded in the Masai Mara, including the endemic birds and the other wildlife species that it possesses.
Camp Walk
Walk across the camp with the Maasai who have been doing it for generations. Learn the Maasai's basic survival skills. Listen to the secrets of the Savannah and let the gentle winds urge you forward.
Game Drives
Our game drives are usually conducted in the early mornings, and late afternoon since these are the most incredible times of the day when most animals are more active. During the game drive, our knowledgeable Maasai guides will introduce you to life in the savanna and share their infinite knowledge about African wildlife.
