The Literary Room is an ideal hideaway for thinkers, dreamers and writers, inspired by great stories of African adventures and discovery. As if from the pages of a quintessential African novel, the cottage is classic and more than comfortable. Equipped with a vintage typewriter, leather reading chairs, writing desk with a brass reading lamp, quill pen and leather blotter, guests can experience and create their own safari story. There is also a selection of classic and African literature. The beautiful, spacious en-suite bedroom open up onto a large veranda, a perfect reading perch for the afternoon.
The Photographer’s Studio
The Photographer's Studio is inspired by imagery and decorated to the theme of life through the lens.
A beautifully furnished cottage, spacious and charming, with a large bedroom, en-suite bathroom and outdoor veranda overlooking the beautiful view. This rooms pays tribute to the decades of incredible photography the marvel of the Great Migration and the Masai Mara has produced. The environment, the wildlife and the people – beautiful, picturesque and inspiring. The Photographer's Studio has an old box browning camera, antique photographic equipment catalogue and stunning prints adorn the walls.
The Observatory
The Observatory is a themed cottage that makes you dream of vast, star-lit African skies. The Observatory has a vintage brass telescope, moon map and selection of interesting material on all things cosmic. This cottage is beautifully furnished and spacious, with ensuite bathroom and a large front deck for relaxing in the day and star gazing at night.
The Natural History Suite – Family Villa
The Natural History Suite is Saruni Mara's family Cottage, with two large en-suite bedrooms, a spacious living area and a veranda. The stylish new villa has two en-suite bedrooms, a large lounge complete with dining area and big, welcoming fireplace. There is also an impressive large veranda overlooking the magnificent scenery of the Masai Mara. The villa is decorated with a selection of antique and vintage prints. There is also relevant reading material such a books on mammals, reptiles, trees and birds. The Natural History Suite will inspire you and your family to understand and experience nature, in all its wonderful shapes and forms.
The Artist’s Studio
The Artist's Studio is an elegant sanctuary for the creative soul, and the perfect place to find inspiration. With a stylishly decorated en-suite bedroom, leading out onto the open veranda, this cottage boasts beautiful views over the secluded valley and out onto the Mara plains in the distance.
Interconnected Family Suites
Each camp has two sets of interconnected family suites which are identical to tented suites, except with the addition of a fully enclosed walkway linking them together. This means guests can still enjoy their space and privacy, with the peace of mind of being able to safely and easily move between the two tented suites.
Patty’s Tent
Elderly guests, or those with restricted mobility, have the option of staying at Patty's Tent which has been designed specifically for guests with physical limitations. This tented suite includes modifications such as grab rails and ramps, but without sacrificing any specall touches or comforts.
Patty's Tent has been fitted with grab rails in both the shower and the w/c. The tent has been cleared of any unnecessary furniture, while all level changes have been fitted with gently sloping ramps. All gravel paths have been cleared between the tent, guest area and vehicle drop-off point.
Tented Suites (2 camps with 15 tented suites each)
Architect duo Silvio Rech and Lesley Carstens, and Jan Allan, Kenya’s King of canvas, designed Angama Mara’s elegant and classical tented suites with an 11-metre wide floor-to-ceiling glass front. Each tent has the same breathtaking view – no one is better than the last – and every day, the sunrise provides guests with early morning theatre as the hot air balloons float gently by.
Highly polished parquet floors, distinctive splashes of Maasai red, a handsome drinks cabinet (with personal bar and safe tactfully tucked away), vanity with double basins, separate w/c, writing desk with ample charging points and tablet with guest information, WiFi, Africology guest amenities, a collection of East African books, a beautiful John Vogel woven screen, and a butler’s lobby allowing for the discreet delivery of early morning tea and coffee, all add to the comfort and delight of guests in their suites.
Luxury tented room
All tented rooms are housed on raised wooden platforms, offering spectacular panoramic views, shaded by a traditional African thatch roof. The expansive private decks are furnished with a huge daybed as well as two comfortable armchairs and a side table – perfect for viewing wildlife, an afternoon nap or for enjoying a dinner in complete privacy.
The interiors are luxuriously appointed with en suite bathrooms and a large outdoor shower, in commune with nature. The four-poster bed as well as a lounging sofa, are outward facing with uninterrupted views onto passing wildlife.
Malaika Suite
“Malaika” is a Swahili word for an angel which explains why this suite is associated with perfection. This suite is also known as the Superior suite, with the fact that it is extremely spacious, with two lounge areas, a separate dressing room, an overly spacious bathroom ensuite with a unique spherical shaped bath tub and balcony with a view of the swimming pool and the utterly landscaped beautiful gardens.
