Wake up to the magic of natural Africa at Mahali Mzuri, a tented safari camp in the northern region of Kenya’s famous Maasai Mara ecosystem. This boutique camp features 12 luxury tents, an infinity pool and a ringside view to some of the most awe-inspiring wildlife viewing you are ever likely to witness. The camp is open year-round and is perfectly positioned for the world-famous Great Migration.
Mahali Mzuri means ‘beautiful place’ in Swahili, and we hope you agree! Due to Mahali Mzuri’s excellent location on the Kenyan plains, you’ll have a front-row seat, not just to the annual great migration, but also to the abundant game you can see all year round. During our twice-daily game drives, you will have the opportunity to see lions, wildebeest, elephants, giraffes and cheetahs, but that’s just for starters!
At Mahali Mzuri, our super stylish tented suites make for the perfect retreat during your stay. We can cater for up to 24 guests in the camp at any one time, so you are guaranteed peace and quiet, as well as excellent customer service at all times.
Mahali Mzuri was voted as the ‘Favourite Safari Camp’ at the Condé Nast Traveller Middle East Reader’s Choice Awards in 2017 and came 2nd in 2018!

Additional Details
At Mahali Mzuri children over the age of two years old are very welcome and we have two family tents so that our Little Warriors (as we call them) can stay with their parents. Children between the age of two and five can stay free of charge, whilst children aged between 6-15 years are charged US $760 per person, per night. Families with children aged 2-6 years old can
join game drives but are required to travel in a closed vehicle (available for hire at $350 per day with car seats on request).
You will most likely be arriving by air, so please do take the time to check with your airline for their precautionary measures too. You can have every confidence that once we collect you from the airstrip, the vehicle you take back to the camp will have been rigorously cleaned and we will have hand sanitiser ready for you as soon as you land – and a refreshing glass of fizz too of course!
For game viewing the Olare Motorogi Conservancy has abundant wildlife year round, and Kenya’s position straddling the equator means there isn’t a huge amount of variation in temperature throughout the year.
You can expect average highs of 30° C/86°F from December to March with cooler temperatures from July to September during the height of the migration.
The key in the bush is layering, as even with the sun shining you may find that it is a little chilly on game drives. In the warmer months go with a windbreaker, hat and sunglasses, then a light padded jacket for the evenings. For the cooler and wetter months take a jumper/ sweater, scarf and a fleece or warm jacket. On game drives, it’s best to wear pale or neutral colours and a pair of closed shoes.
Around the camp, you can wear whatever you like, and while formal wear isn’t always practical, of course, it’s up to you. Make sure you remember to pack your swimsuit for around the pool.
Anyone who’s been on safari before knows that no two game drives are ever the same! Safaris in Kenya are filled to the brim with exciting wildlife sightings as well as romantic scenery and dramatic views. Wild animals roaming the Kenyan plains include wildebeest, elephants, zebra, lions, leopards, cheetah, giraffe, impala and gazelles, but that’s just for starters.
The abundant animal life in the Olare Motorogi Conservancy is quite simply jaw-dropping, and you won’t need to go far to see some unforgettable sights. All the drama that only nature can provide is on your doorstep and you’ll be in the hands of our experienced Field Guides with a front-row seat on your safari tour.
A number of lion pride territories meet in the Olare Motorogi Conservancy which can make for some interesting encounters as the different groups battle for dominance.
The area is also home to roughly 150,000 Loita wildebeest that don’t make the annual migration south and seem content to ‘loiter’ all year round! Of course one of the biggest draws to the area is the annual ‘Great Migration’, which sees up to one million wildebeest plus hundreds of thousands of zebra, gazelles and other game undertake a journey of roughly 1,600km through Tanzania and Kenya.

Mahali Mzuri, Masai Mara, Kenya
Mahali Mzuri is about 240km almost due west of Nairobi and the best way to arrive is by plane is to Nairobi-Wilson Airport. We can arrange transfers between the international and domestic airports for arrivals from outside Kenya.
The main international airport in Nairobi, Kenya’s capital, is Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, with daily direct flights from the main European hubs: London, Paris, Brussels and Amsterdam as well as New York.
There are also daily arrivals from Johannesburg in South Africa as well as from hubs in the Middle East including Dubai and Doha.
Flights from Europe take on average just over 8 hours and direct flights from New York will take 15 hours. For those connecting from any other USA hub will need to travel via one of the cities mentioned above.
A number of domestic airlines are based at Nairobi-Wilson Airport and most provide scheduled flights to the region which take an hour or less. There are two airstrips close to Mahali Mzuri that we would recommend guests to use. The closest airstrip is the Olare Orok airstrip which is approximately 25 minutes away from Mahali Mzuri. The second is the Mara North airstrip where the journey by vehicle to the camp is roughly one hour’s drive.
Both airstrips are served by flights operated by Safarilink Aviation and Air Kenya. Olare Orok is also served by Governor’s Aviation.
Special charter flights can also be arranged on request if the scheduled times don’t suit you and these flights can land at the private airstrip in the conservancy, roughly 20 minutes’ drive from camp.
Virtually all visitors to Kenya will need a visa to enter the country. UK and Irish citizens travelling to Kenya can apply for their visa in advance online using the Kenyan e-visa portal: www.evisa.go.ke. Visas are generally issued within two working days. Please note that the e-visa system only accepts Debit cards and is roughly US$51 per person.
Visitors are also required to have at least two blank pages in their passport which must be valid for 6 months beyond your expected departure date from Kenya. As advice can change on a regular basis we recommend you check with the advice issued by your government’s State Department or Foreign Office before you set off on your journey.
