Overview
In the heart of the Okavango, luxurious Jao is set amongst islands fringed with riverine forests and vast, floodplains with prolific wildlife. Shaded by a canopy of trees, the five spacious suites and two ultra-luxe villas offer en-suite facilities with both indoor and outdoor showers. Expansive views from the private sala at each suite make for a sumptuous setting for afternoon siestas.
Customised luxury guest suites and two ultra-luxe villas share Jao Island with the spectacular main area, which features a pool, a library and an outdoor boma for evenings of traditional food, song and dance. The views of the night skies over Jao cement its place in the safari firmament as a star among equals.

Jao Camp – Essence of the Delta
The new Jao Camp is a superlative, high-end safari offering encapsulating the Delta in its design, décor and colours, incorporating a unique botanical theme with special emphasis placed on the area’s water lily. As a place dedicated to the conservation of the Okavango, Jao’s Spa and treatments speak to the holistic health of its guests, which resonates with the health of the Okavango’s ecosystem, where around the immense Jao Flats, spectacular herds of red lechwe are followed by their predators – lion and leopard.

Jao Camp - Mokoro Excursion
There is no better way of viewing the Delta and its wildlife than by traditional mokoro (dugout canoe).
Jao Camp - Game Drives
Morning and afternoon game drives are offered in open 4×4 Land Rovers each accommodating a maximum of seven people allowing each guest a window seat. We have five Land Rovers including a private vehicle.
Jao Camp - Boating
Trips in our boats in the waterways to the east of camp allow for good game viewing in the channels further away. We have one eleven-seater and one thirteen-seater.
Jao Camp - Full-Day Game Drives And Picnics
A 45-minute boat ride from Jao Camp, you can enjoy a full-day game drive, along with a picnic, on wildlife-rich Hunda Island.
Jao Camp - Night Drives
Night drives with spotlights allow you to find those nocturnal animals you wouldn’t see during the day. Please note that during high water levels, night drives are not possible.
Jao Camp - Jao Spa
Tucked under magnificent African ebony trees overlooking lush waterways, the Jao Spa is an enchanting setting where you can rest and feel utterly restored. Here, we offer a full menu of therapies from facials to manicures, and a range of massage options.
Jao Camp - Gym
Our gym is equipped with an elliptical cross trainer, rowing machine, stationary exercise bicycle, exercise mats, medicine ball and a range of free weights between 2.5 and 25 kilograms.
Jao Camp - Fishing
Fishing with a limited supply of basic equipment (spinner rods and a small range of lures) is on offer seasonally on a catch-and-release basis.
