Overview

Kirkman’s Kamp offers a nostalgic take on the safari experience, rooted in the spirit of the pioneering days.

Set on the site of a 1920s homestead, the camp retains a distinctly old-world character, from its classical sitting room and library to its wide verandas overlooking the Sand River.

The library offers a quiet retreat filled with interesting reads, while the classical sitting room provides an elegant setting for a pre-dinner drink. Tea is served on the rolling lawn, while breakfast and lunch are enjoyed on the shady verandas. Dinner is a magnificent affair, with Pan-African-inspired menus served in the boma, on the lawns or in a candlelit bush setting.

Between game drives, guests can slow down and enjoy the simple pleasures of the bush. Immersed in the surrounding bushscape, the rim-flow swimming pool overlooks the Sand River, while a game of tennis, boule or croquet offers a leisurely way to spend the afternoon. The Treatment Room provides a tranquil space for a relaxing massage.

Safari Game Drives

Game drives take place twice daily, in the early morning and late afternoon into the evening, in open 4-wheel-drive safari vehicles. The vehicles allow guides to venture beyond established roads, providing guests with closer wildlife encounters and excellent photographic opportunities.Experienced guides interpret the bush in real time, using tracks, alarm calls, bird activity and other signs to locate and follow wildlife. Each drive offers the opportunity to experience the natural rhythms of the reserve while gaining insight into animal behaviour and the surrounding ecosystem.

Walking Safari

Tailored walking experiences are available with an experienced guide, with strict safety protocols followed throughout. Subject to weather and conditions, walking is generally offered during the drier winter months, when visibility through the bush is improved and conditions are more comfortable.On foot, guests experience the bush from a different perspective, learning to track wildlife and observe smaller game, insects, birds and plants that can easily be missed from a vehicle. Walking allows guests to slow down and discover the intricate details of the ecosystem, from tracks and signs in the soil to the smaller species and flora found among the grasses.

Guests can unwind with relaxing spa treatments, available in the privacy of their room or at the tranquil spa.
